Are we not all feverishly lost in this cultural desert? We clumsily lurch our way from one fabricated oasis to another. Hiding away manufactured trinkets of nostalgia like rare and precious gemstones. Far from sea, we all harbor this albatross

-The desert

It was that sweet recurring nightmare that we never wanted to end. I could see pieces of you in everything pure and good in this world, and I despised you for it. Drifting around the boundaries of each other's lives — the occasional "Hey how are you" were just friendly reminders that I can't breathe underwater. Not broken just unfinished, you couldn't let me go, and I loved you for it, but all we really had were just moments wishing we had said more.

We stood at the edge of the sandstone cliffs gazing to the horizon, the night sky scattered with specks of sugar was consumed by the tranquil sea. 50ft below us dive lights illuminated the water, bearing life. A sacred ritual no one spoke; we just existed. In that moment, nothing else mattered. I could feel doubt creeping along my spine, A half-cracked smile masked the bitter chill I hide from everyone who followed me. Stepping off into the uncertainty, it wasn't fear of the plunge or the ice-cold water but excitement and anticipation.

Would it be there? The seconds after you break the surface and the bubbles cleared, the realization of how insignificant we are. How little value we added to the world. Surrounded by nothingness, every movement became the property of the sea. No kelp brushing past our legs, causing imaginations of leviathans and clawed hands reaching from the deep. Just those seconds of pure solitude worth more than gold. We all frantically make our way back to the cliff, chasing that feeling.

Turning a blind eye to outstretched hands, we cling to life, praying that entropy does not find us in the great dark silent forest. The luminous skies, once filled with unending noise, have grown still with terror. Only those uninitiated still look to the stars in faith.

Like the ember, waiting for a breath of life, we hope that or blaze will light the way for generations to come.

-My people desire hope

Eyes locked, we travel within this barren land surviving off the Oasis that is us. Sunkissed, you flow through my mind like a cool harvest breeze, the hint of tropical fruit and shea butter warms my soul. I look at you, and I feel home.
